Smart Pole Career Pathway Collaboration with ARIS Wind

The Smart Pole is an off-grid, hybrid that depends on solar and wind power to generate streetlights. The equipment generates data that compare wind vs solar power generation in real time. ARIS Wind and WCRC have designed career pathway learning tool materials that introduced Middle and High School students to the following:

  • How Smart Poles address climate change using key terms and interactive assignments
  • Mathematical and analysis using data to compare solar and wind power generation
  • Career exploration that aligns with the development, delivery, and operation of Smart Pole

Thanks to the NJ State Climate Change Mandate, these learning tool materials were piloted in four school districts – Belleville, Newark, Pennsville, and Wayne. These schools’ STEM classes have incorporated these learning tool materials into their lesson plans for Middle and High School students.

Belleville Review
“…we are thrilled with the outcomes during this school year. At school #9, our Rutgers Americorps Service Member was able to use the data and help students understand how the pole conserves energy. In high school, our science teachers have used the data in their classes through lessons and labs. I have heard great feedback, and we are grateful for your guidance and support throughout the school year”.
